The Ruins

Did anyone see the movie or read the book by Scott Smith, the Ruins? It is about these man-eating vines with red flowers in Mexico that attack Cancun tourists in the Yucatan jungle, near a Mayan village. They were on their way to an archaeology dig/tour.

When walking on the beach of the Caribbean Yucatan, I would often come across these vines growing from the edge of the jungle down the beach, like they were trying to reach us. I put them over me, placed red flowers around and pretended they were attacking me!
